So for the next few hours I’m going to be putting up some review-ettes (is that even a word?) of Soundwave, but first let’s judge the logistical issues of Two-Zero-One-Zero, because Soundwave always find a way to stuff things up royally every year.
This year’s list includes:

Minimal organisation of their security: I say this as a mere observation more than a critique, mostly because the crowd was rather well-behaved and security personnel themselves actually did a lot to help (stopping fuckwits, giving out water, etc.). But I practically flew through the gates without a single person caring that my ticket was a print out with two barcodes to scan and the D Barriers had people jumping fences whist the legit folks who were lining up got abandoned.
They ran out of water by 2pm and started serving people Mount Franklin bottles.
They had minimal shade areas
Considering the two former points, it was scorching hot.
They closed two of the bars. Cheers of “Bullshit” were heard from the lines outside.
Someone vomited on my bus. Supposedly driving to the festival was horrid but who actually drives to a festival unless they want to get fucked over and possibly get caught for drunk driving?

There were improvements but in usual internet fashion I won’t mention them and assume KMW Productions are the devil. Onto the bands.

This went on for WAY TOO LONG

This went on for WAY TOO LONG

I’m going to keep it simple, AC/DC were boring

I saw their first Sydney show last Thursday and I have to make the following complaints:

  1. They are loose as hell. It’s like Angus Young and Brian Johnson are a completely different band to the other three guys. Oh wait these guys are advertised AS the band!
  2. 15 minute guitar solos only make sense if you can actually play something above mindless tapping
  3. Sure it was probably the bogan crowd but the entire thing felt a bit ZOO Weekly: the Concert. Why do women want to show their boobs to over 85000 people?
  4. The one deciding factor though is that they just can’t hold a stadium crowd. For better or for worse acts like U2, Muse, Metallica, Prince and Kanye West can captivate and resonate over hundreds of thousands. I never got that feeling from neither Johnson or Young. They looked like they were trying way too hard to sell their shtick to their own audience. And they audience (who will never admit it) was practically frozen solid.

So I need my faith in stadium rock restored. Ugh. Someone bring Bon Scott back to life.
